Breast Augmentation Pricing
Breast Augmentation surgery is one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures performed worldwide, and the advent of silicone gel implants has also made it one of the safest.
However, it can be an expensive procedure, due to the multi-faceted cost structure that is normally involved. It is usual in Cosmetic Surgery throughout the world for all fees implants, surgical, anaesthetic and hospital, to be paid in advance of your surgery.
Essentially there are four cost aspects to Breast Augmentation Pricing:
The Breast Implants
Most, if not all, Australian surgeons now use gel-filled implants as opposed to saline (saltwater) implants. Gel implants are more costly, but gel implants will not leak or deflate, although not lifetime devices it it not common to need replacement in your lifetime, and they have a very, very low rate of wrinkling and rippling (seeing or feeling the prosthesis) and capsular contracture (hardening of the breasts). Improvements in technology have helped improve the clinical results, and there is a variation in cost between the tear drop and round implants. Round implants range from $1,199 to $1,750.
Breast Augmentation Complete includes the cost of your breast implants.
Surgical fees are fixed. This means that whether an operation takes one hour or three hours is irrelevant to the surgeon. Fees will differ from surgeon to surgeon, as indeed surgeons are not allowed by the Consumer and Competition Council to collude on fee structures or even to discuss fees. Organisations such as the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons or the Australian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons will not advise surgeons on fees or fee structures. Dr Briggs and his staff will provide you with an estimation of fees at your consultation.
Breast Augmentation Complete includes surgical fees and the specialised skill of Dr Briggs’s 25 years of experience as a specialist Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon.
The anaesthetist, who administers your general anaesthetic and monitors your wellbeing during the procedure, will also give you an estimation of fees prior to your procedure. All surgery performed by Dr Briggs is done under a general anaesthetic.
Breast Augmentation Complete includes your anaesthetic costs.
All surgeons and anaesthetists are “independent contractors” who utilise the facilities of private hospitals. Surgeons do not have any financial arrangements with private hospitals and as such are not party to the arrangements that private hospitals make with patients. Dr Briggs’ practice is therefore unable to negotiate, discuss or agree on any financial arrangements with regards to fees. The hospital concerned should provide an accurate estimate of likely fees prior to surgery.
Breast Augmentation Complete includes your hospital costs.
Private Health Insurance
Prospective patients are advised to read the document “Informed Financial Consent” provided by Dr Briggs at your consultation and available on his website. You are also advised to contact Medicare and your Private Health insurer to determine the likelihood of obtaining help with fees.
Medicare & Breast Augmentation
It is standard practice that most cosmetic surgical procedures do not attract a Medicare item number. It is very rare, but not entirely unknown, for Breast Augmentation surgery to attract an item number under the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS). In the event that you are eligible there is a possibility that you may be entitleted to a Medicare rebate for Breast Augmentation.
